KKBQ-FM Launches

Topic: Community-Focused Initiatives

The "New Q Morning Zoo" from KKBQ-FM in Houston, Texas, takes its show on the road every Thursday to visit a town on the outskirts of its listening area. The "In Your Backyard" broadcast gives locals an opportunity to be part of something to which they normally wouldnt have access, and promotes tourism and community involvement. Promotional mentions about the five-hour broadcast run during the first half of the week. The community being paid a visit receives a homepage presence on the stations Web site. Each year, the effort requires more than 250 staff hours. The result: Staff get to meet listeners from the entire broadcast area, and local businesses in less trafficked areas enjoy increased exposure.
